Pinterest is not just a social platform, it is a visual search engine.
And like Google, Pinterest rewards creators who focus on certain types of topics and create organized content.
Most bloggers are missing a crucial aspect when they attempt to grow traffic from Pinterest.
They try to cover too much.
Breakfast recipes, dinner recipes, snacks, smoothies, desserts.
An entire cookbook, in a single blog.
While it may seem logical on the surface, in reality, it confuses the Pinterest algorithm.
This is why some Pinterest users are growing at an exponential rate, while others continue struggling for years.
Recently I ran Pinterest keyword research using Pintrendo our interest Keyword Tool and discovered a niche that is performing incredibly well on Pinterest.

A niche that has:
- excellent visuals
- seasonal spikes
- an evergreen interest
- A niche called desserts.
But not just any desserts, let me explain.
Keyword Analysis On Why Desserts Are Successful on Pinterest
People using Pinterest want to get ideas on how to celebrate occasions.
Desserts are ideal for such events.

Additionally, when compared to other foods, desserts have a strong visual appeal on Pinterest.
Beautiful presentation and intricate designs inspire Pinterest users to save content to their Pinterest boards.
And since saves are one of the most powerful engagement signals on Pinterest, content with more saves will perform exponentially better on the platform.
A second reason why desserts are a great niche is due to the way Pinterest works in terms of seasonal content.
Pinterest loves content that has seasonal relevance
Users tend to search for content and ideas months before an event takes place.
This is why content about Easter desserts, Christmas desserts, graduation desserts, or baby shower desserts continues to perform well on Pinterest every single year.

When I analyzed Pinterest trends using our Pinterest Keyword Tool, a large amount of the most popular queries were seasonal desserts such as:
- Cute Easter desserts
- St Patrick’s Day desserts
- Spring desserts
- 4th of July desserts
- Graduation desserts
This type of content can generate massive amounts of traffic for your site, every single year it is published.
Here’s a quick sneak peek of the research conducted, you can download the research here too.

But seasonal content is not the only opportunity inside the dessert niche.
There are multiple sub-categories that are also incredibly valuable on Pinterest.
How This Pinterest Keyword Data Was Collected?

Before developing the strategy detailed in this article, I wanted to ensure that this opportunity had solid data behind it.
I pulled a dataset from Pinterest search trend queries and analyzed each term individually on our Pinterest keyword tool.
This allowed me to see exactly which search queries were popular on Pinterest at the time of the search.
Instead of randomly picking a general topic, I had a list of dozens of search terms that I could analyze for content opportunities based on:
- trend growth
- seasonal relevance
- evergreen search volume
- visual appeal on Pinterest
In total, the dataset contained 50 dessert-related searches that were performing well on Pinterest.
By analyzing each query individually in our Pinterest Keyword Tool, I was able to see patterns on the niche such as seasonal desserts, desserts based on ingredients, and health-focused desserts.
The advantage of this strategy is that it reduces research time.
Instead of spending weeks identifying what I should blog about, I could use the dataset to determine what was currently popular on Pinterest.
In fact, the blueprint that will be available later in this article includes the full keyword map built from the dataset so you can skip the research phase.
This is the research stage of the Pintrendo Method, my step-by-step framework for Pinterest keyword research and writing articles that stays future-proof. Everything in this article builds on that stage, and because it is based on search intent rather than algorithm tricks, it keeps working when Pinterest changes.
Analyzing Ingredient-Based Keyword Queries in Pintrendo
A popular type of search on Pinterest are those made up of ingredients.
Users want dessert recipes based on ingredients they already have at home.
The most popular searches are:
- Strawberry desserts
- Lemon desserts
- Date desserts
- Almond flour desserts
And many more.
Content designed around these ingredients can generate consistent traffic, since the intent is clear when someone searches on these terms.
Here’s a screenshot from our research:

The Pintrendo Pinterest Keyword Tool uses query expansion drilling to generate real-time search volume and trend data.
All these deep research is entirely possible using the drill function in Pintrendo. Each time you click on the search query it expands (this is how we got the above results)
Identifying High-Intent Healthy Dessert Queries via Pintrendo

Snapshot from our original research
One of the latest trends in healthy eating is the demand for desserts that are less harmful to the body.
When analyzing Pinterest trends, I discovered that many users are searching for content related to:
- High protein desserts
- Low calorie desserts
- Sugar free desserts
- Healthy chocolate desserts
This is a great opportunity to monetize your Pinterest content.
Health-focused desserts have the potential to attract two different types of audiences to your blog.
The Biggest Mistake Bloggers Make
Now that we understand why desserts are such a great niche for Pinterest, let’s discuss the biggest mistake bloggers make when creating content.
They fall for the dessert opportunity…
But instead of building a focused site, they build a general food blog.
They publish:
- Dinner recipes
- Lunch recipes
- Smoothies
- Healthy bowls
- Desserts
Everything…
It may seem like a good strategy in theory, but in practice, it dilutes the site.
Pinterest favors accounts that have a single focus.
The idea is to not get your content scattered around too many subjects, it becomes difficult for the algorithm to figure out what kind of information your blog post or the article offers.
The Smart Strategy: Build a Dessert-Focused Content System
When creating a site focused on desserts, the best strategy is to follow a structured content system.
Something like this…

Think of your website as a tree wherein the trunk is your primary topic (desserts), the branches are your larger topics (e.g. seasonal desserts, healthy desserts), while the leaves are your content posts.
Once you have a basic structure of your site, the next step is to organize the content based on Pinterest trends.
After analyzing the Pinterest data, I developed a blueprint for a dessert blog that follows six different content hubs.
Each of these hubs represents a large category related to desserts.
Inside each of those content hubs, we can create multiple posts based on Pinterest content trends.
For example, seasonal desserts can be organized by:
- Easter desserts
- Christmas desserts
- Halloween desserts
- Thanksgiving desserts
- Graduation desserts
- Baby shower desserts
- Valentine’s Day desserts
Apart from the content which is associated with individual ingredients, like Strawberry desserts, Lemon desserts, Date desserts and so forth.
This approach will give you a structure whereby all your content will be arranged into one topic.
How Pinterest Traffic Compounds Over Time
One of the biggest advantages of generating traffic from Pinterest is that it can compound over time.
As opposed to other social media platforms, Pinterest allows content to resurface months or even years after it has been initially published.
This means that a post with Easter desserts published this year will receive traffic again next year, the year after, and so on.
The same applies to content related to specific ingredients, baby shower desserts, or other types of seasonal content.
Each of these pieces will generate additional traffic with little or no effort.
Monetization Opportunities in the Dessert Niche
While increased traffic is always a welcome advantage, monetization is an even bigger goal for most bloggers.
Monetization opportunities on the dessert niche are endless.
Display ads are always an option, since food-related blogs have a high average income per click.
Promotion through affiliate marketing is possible for the bakery equipment, tools, baking ingredients, and cooking accessories.
Lastly, the niche of desserts also allows revenue generation using online products like printables of dessert recipes or seasonal desserts.
Some bloggers even go as far as teaching other aspiring bloggers how to launch their own small home-based businesses on the dessert niche.
The Blueprint That Ties Everything Together
After analyzing Pinterest trends and successful site structures, I created a Pinterest Blueprint that contains everything that is needed to build a profitable Pinterest-focused blog in the dessert or any niche for that matter.
